April Recap and thoughts

Wow! I can’t believe the first month of baseball has already gone by.

Week 4 / Month 1 recap:

In the Hallucination Fantasy League, the race for first has been dominated by the Empire and the Rebels, better known as Cain and Abel, but realistically known as Kyle and Kris. What adds to their rivalry is that sibling thing… I foresee them remaining in the top 5 through the whole month of May. I have a feeling there could be a little shakeup starting in June.

But there is another Haraldsen to worry about. Paul’s Baked beans has been slowly creeping up the ranks. Paul’s team has a nice blend of awesome speed with decent RBI guys (tied for 3rd in the league). Only thing he lacks is homeruns. Scary to think what will happen when Sexson starts driving the ball and when Derrek Lee comes back. Papelbon is single-handedly pumping out the lone saves for that team. But he is doing a helluva job. Another team quietly around the top is Joe’s K9s. Nice team… very nice team. You may need a middle relief guy in there that could give you some cheap wins and strikeouts.

Crazy Carl and Dingle Berries are both underachieving a little bit so far… since I predicted high expectations in my prognostications. Both are so different. Crazy Carl is getting so many pitching wins, while Dingle Berries are pumping up the saves. Dingle Berries just picked up Kenny Rogers… he should get you some wins. You could sure use a few. On another note, I’m surprised Crazy Carl’s power-hitting isn’t there yet. What’s up with Texeira, Morneau, and Jeff Kent? Maybe the summer months will induce more power from these guys. Lastly, the only thing these two teams have truly in common is good team speed.

Rounding out… I really like the Sting’s pitching. They’ll get better hitting hopefully soon. I like the Dawg’s power and speed. That offense needs better management to function at 100%. And lastly, I can’t help but say I love the makeup of Oaklyn’s team a lot. So much talent… I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up in 2nd or 3rd place in RBI’s at the end of the season. I’m serious. My prediction…. at least one of these teams in the bottom 3 will make an incredible run as early as June. I just have this feeling.

Trade ideas

I thought it would be interesting to propose some trade ideas that could help teams in this league. I know trades appear hard to come by this season, but I have some ideas:

Hilo Firebirds: Matt Holliday
Florida Sting: Bobby Jenks

*RBI’s for saves. Matt Holliday will get over 100 RBI this year. With all those guys getting on base for him, especially when Helton comes back, 100 RBI is a shoe-in. Besides, Holliday could also help the 'Birds with a few saves. The Firebirds could sure use the saves and the strikeouts from Jenks right now.

Bombers: Liriano
NY K9s: Matt Mulder

*Strikeouts for wins. Mulder gets stronger as the season progresses and should get at least 15 wins just with the St.Louis run support. Liriano gets K’s. K9s need K's and vulture wins.

Crazy Carl: F. Hernandez
Dingle Berries: BJ Ryan

*Felix is not having the season we hoped he would be having, but he’ll get wins and strikeouts as the year progresses. He’s that tough. Dingle Berries could use the wins. BJ Ryan gets you saves and strikeouts. Crazy Carl could use this kind of guy.

Baked Beans: Chone Figgins
Oaklyn Oddballs: Miguel Cabrera

*Oaklyn’s power is there. Baked Beans could use a little more power (especially 30 more homeruns). Oaklyn could benefit from the runs and the speed. Intriguing idea.

No.1 Dawgs: Carlos Lee
Rounders: Brad Lidge

*I’ll let you all think about this for a little while. Helps out both teams in need of a certain area. Carlos Lee is a complete player (he even gets steals – 13 last year). Lidge gives the Dawgs the obvious. Saves and K’s….

Good luck everyone and have a good week!
