Week 3: Thou shalt covet

Instead of just doing a basic review of our league’s week 3, I though I’d take a different approach and discuss the players on each team.

First... a quick review of Week #3: I really thought the Bombers were going to hold on to first place till at least Monday so I could name them Team of the Week. But that designation still belongs to the Rounders, especially for showing the resiliency of snatching back first place. It's the pitching... their hitting can slow down, but that pitching is just too good right now.
Second, I must give credit to the Baked Beans and the Oddballs for hanging in there and continuing to push forward. You both have a load of talent and your pitching hasn't started to jell yet... Hang in there guys! You never know... fantasy baseball has a weird way of evening things out. Third... Joe's K9 troop is quietly hanging around the top... I like his team a lot... a basestealer on that roster could shoot him up a nice 5 points.

Okay, the second part...
I know that we only have the opportunity to play only 25 players at a time and we’re often so dissatisfied by the players we have, but wouldn’t it be fun to talk about players we wish we had? Thus, a little listing of players on other teams who I would love to snatch and put on my roster:

Florida Sting:

Obvious stud: Alex Rodriguez. This guy is incredible. He does everything: RBI, Runs, Homers, a few steals, and a decent batting average.

Sleeper: Jay Gibbons. This guy is quietly having a career year. You watch… 30 homers could be a good possibility… especially with Roberts, Mora, and Tejada in front of him.

Bay State Bombers:

Obvious stud: Carl Crawford. The big stats aren’t there yet, but he’ll be stealing 50+ this year… and he’ll hit 15 homers… rare to find this… especially when other teams are sacrificing power to get speedsters to steal 40+.

Sleeper: Francisco Liriano. Strikeouts, ERA, and WHIP without the starts. Nice.

Shrewsbury Rounders:

Obvious stud: David Wright. He’ll get better and better… 20-30 steals this year along with the power and RBI’s.

Sleeper: Scott Shields. His year-end stats could include 8 wins, 10 saves, 100 strikeouts, nice ERA, and no wasted starts.

Upstate NY K9’s:

Obvious stud: Manny Ramirez. Big RBI machine.

Sleeper: Brian Roberts. In spring training, we didn’t know what to expect. Now I expect 40+steals and a 100 runs scored.

Crazy Carl:

Obvious stud: Mark Teixeira. He’s the man in Texas. If only he could steal bases.

Sleeper: Felix Hernandez. People may be down on him right now but I think he’s ready to turn it around really soon. 15 or so wins would be nice… and I think he’ll get 200 K’s this year…

Haymarket Baked Beans:

Obvious stud: Miguel Tejada. A shortstop who can get 100+ rbis is hard to find. He allows owners to look for steals in the outfield…

Sleeper: Mark Prior. Who wants a guy who'll be hurt most of the year? Very good question... but if my fantasy team is competing down the stretch and I get him in August, he could make a big difference.

Oaklyn Oddballs:

Obvious Stud: Johan Santana. Best starting pitcher is starting slow, but what’s new?

Sleeper: Nick Swisher. Nope… not a fluke…

Dingle Berries:

Obvious stud: Vlad Guerrero. Best player on a fantasy team full of solid but underachieving players.

Sleeper: Garrett Atkins. Runs machine… he can flat out hit and with the Coors element, he could go for 20 homers. I feel sick for dropping him.

No.1 Dawgs:

Obvious stud: Albert Pujols. Best hitter in the league. I don’t need to say more.

Sleeper: Randy Winn. He WILL be 20/20…
